This is because it is powered by a rechargeable battery that gets its power directly from the sun. During the day, the solar panel coverts sunlight into electricity and stores it in the built-in rechargeable battery. During the night, the solar security light is triggered by a passive infrared motion detector.

Each solar panel provides two to three times the power output of other models and the 3W solar panels charges the InfraSolite batteries under overcast conditions.
